A day in Flanders WW1 battlefield experience

A very well laid out and well timed tour. Claude was able to cover a large amount of ground and show us numerous memorials, cemeteries and bunkers. We were traveling with young children who at times slow us down and Claude remain flexible. This tour would be better with teens and adults than younger children, but my husband and I did enjoy the tour and learned a lot. We really had no idea what sites were available to see and I think perhaps we would've enjoyed the tour more if we had done more research.

We had a very enjoyable day with Claude. He arrived on time and quickly took us to the first of many interesting locations relating to WW1 and Flanders in particular. Throughout he was knowledgeable, happy to explain the history of each location and answered all of the questions we raised from memory. Claude was also a genial host with a dry sense of humour and made us laugh many times throughout the day. We were happy to take up his recommendations on the best local beer to have with provided lunch!

Claude V was very knowledgeable and concentrated on the fighting in the vicinity of Ypres. We particularly enjoyed Passchendaele (both the battlefield and the excellent Memorial Museum, with its model trenches and dugout), the Commonwealth Cemetery at Tyne Cot, and Ypres itself. We also visited a site with authentic unrestored trenches. Particularly moving was the 3 trumpet "Last Post" Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, which honors the "Missing'" 50,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers.

Claude gave the four of us a fabulous tour of the area around Ypres. He is very knowledgeable and we learnt a huge amount about the first world war and the history of the area. The tour was extremely interesting and enjoyable despite the grim subject subject matter. Claude showed us just the right number of sites so that the tour wasn't overwhelming and gave us time at each site to take everything in rather than rushing to another site. We all found the tour fascinating and would definitely recommend it.

We really enjoyed our day with Claude. He was very knowledgeable and easy to get along with and he also adapted our tour to suit our requests. I would recommend Claude anytime.
