Bronze Age Settlements, Myths, Tales of Prison Life, Tasty Food, Hound of the Baskervilles, Stunning Views, and Lots More!
This is a wonderfully varied tour that encompasses so much of what Dartmoor is about, including myths and legends, bronze age settlements, beautiful views, country inns, desolate moorland and cream teas! Carefully selected photo stops and short walks to hidden views not seen from the road leave memorable impressions of some of the most stunning scenery in the United Kingdom!
A private and exclusive guided tour at the quirky and World famous Dartmoor Prison will fascinate you, and I'm confident that you will remember the whole day for all the right reasons.
However, I don't want to give too much away as it really is a day to experience in the flesh, with some wonderful added extras. If you are a fan of Hound of the Baskervilles, this is the tour for you!

I will collect you at 9am, after you've had breakfast. We'll take a beautiful drive across Dartmoor, allowing you to see various Tors and sites of historical interest, including a grave with a tale to tell and a bronze age settlement. After a short moorland walk, we'll have a relaxing lunch at a highly regarded country inn. We then head to the infamous Dartmoor Prison, where you will have a private guided tour of the decidedly quirky Museum. We will also have access to the Church and grounds of the Prison, and see the monument dedicated to the American prisoners of war who died over 200 years ago. We'll end the day with a traditional cream tea, after which I will return you to your accommodation at approximately 5. 30pm. References and locations relevant to The Hound of the Baskervilles are included during the day, and my guests can hear about a first edition of the book, which my family owns. Indeed, my great grandfather helped Sir Arthur Conan Doyle when he was planning which locations to use in the book.

Alex Graeme guided us on a fine tour of Dartmoor and the Devon coast—including visits to sites related to Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles, tors & small towns, Totnes & Dartmouth, & the coast as far as Torcross & the scene of military tragedy. What made our tour with Alex G.so memorable was not only his extensive knowledge—which he wears lightly and shares effortlessly—but also that he became a friend whose enjoyment at showing us the places he knows and loves was always evident. What a treat.
