Royal enthusiasts around the globe are celebrating an unprecedented milestone: Queen Elizabeth has reached 70 years as the reigning monarch of the people of the UK, the Realms and the Commonwealth. Known as the Platinum Jubilee, this is the first time this milestone has been reached in British history. Queen Elizabeth is the longest reigning monarch in British history, and the third longest reigning monarch in the world.
Her Majesty the Queen reached the 70 year mark on February 6 2022, and special events and initiatives are taking place throughout the year for communities and people across the UK to come together and celebrate her seven decades of service.
The celebrations will culminate with a special extended bank holiday weekend from June 2-6, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend 2022. Various once in a lifetime events will be taking place throughout the weekend, including:
June 2: The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) & Platinum Jubilee Beacons
June 3: Service of Thanksgiving
June 4: The Derby at Epsom Downs & Platinum Party at the Palace
June 5: The Big Jubilee Lunch & The Platinum Jubilee Pageant
Royal fans from near and far are encouraged to celebrate the Queen’s milestone year in their own ways. If you’re in a celebratory mood, here are some suggestions on how to get involved across the UK and beyond:
