How to Book a Multi-Day Tour

Apr 20 2023

ToursByLocals is best known for helping travellers make the absolute most of a single day. Every year, the guides on our platform take travellers on tens of thousands of tours all over the world, ranging anywhere from 2 to 12 hours long. But did you know you can also book multi-day tours with these guides – even multi-week?

Guides don’t always list these tours as obvious "book now" options in their profiles. That’s because, typically, a multi-day tour is highly customized: the guide and traveller have an extensive conversation via email to determine the tour's full itinerary. The tour cost includes the guide services, private transportation, and any entrance fees, and often accommodation too, depending on the situation.

To start the process of creating one of these itineraries, just send an introductory message to a guide of your choice in the region you want to visit.

We’ve found certain places are more popular than others when booking multi-day tour bookings. We see them most often in places like Peru, Ireland, Madagascar, South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Iceland - places with so many must-sees that travelling around the country is a must!

While multi-day bookings are usually customized to individual travellers, we do have a number of popular itineraries that get booked exactly as is, or with only slight modifications. Here are a handful of some of our most popular, tried and true multi-day itineraries in some beautiful and adventurous destinations.

One of the best perks of booking a guide for multiple days is the very solid friendship that forms between traveller and guide – it can sometimes make it difficult to say goodbye! Here’s an example of the sort of magic that can happen when a passionate local guide helps you plan the trip of your dreams:

Ravo in Madagascar was perfect. He did not just give us a package tour, he took the time to learn about us and what we wanted and liked and created the perfect tour for us. We wanted to see local culture and he took us to Famadihana. Ravo was able to make for us the perfect holiday that we had dreamed of. We saw so much of the true life of the wonderful people of Madagascar. He is much more than just a normal guide; he is a 'fantasy' maker. He turned Madagascar in to Fantasy Island for us. He was perfect!” – Gail Orenstein USA

So go ahead: send a message to the guide in the destination you’ve been dreaming about, and see what sort of travel magic you can cook up together.
