Today we welcome local guide Diana in Oslo as she shares her favourite off the beaten track destinations to explore with visitors.
My name is Diana. I have been working as a tour guide in Norway and Oslo for over 16 years. I have spent a good chunk of my life traveling extensively. Apart from my innate passion for travel and tourism, I get a thrill from showing my guests Oslo, the capital of Norway. I offer Edvard Munch tours, art and sculpture tours and gastronomical tours off the beaten track in Oslo. I also love to take photos and I have my own Instagram gallery for showcasing Oslo and Norway for all my guests.
Five Off the Beaten Track Places to Explore in Oslo
Explore a vibrant neighbourhood

Wander the hipster area of Grunerløkka - you can find not only nature and a river in the middle of the city, but this neighborhood has lovely shops, colorful architecture and beautiful murals.
Follow in the footsteps of Edvard Munch
Munch used to live in many different neighborhoods in Oslo, and he found a lot of inspiration for his classic paintings by walking in Oslo. I like to stop at a view point where Munch finds his inspiration in painting The Scream.
Get a taste of Norwegian island living

Visiting some of the islands in Oslo, by using public transportation. This tour is particular interesting during the summer, because you can experience how people live in the summer wooden houses.
Get to know “green” Oslo

Oslo is a
sustainable city and there are plenty of places to explore in Oslo, such as visiting car-free zone streets in downtown Oslo, green roofs in modern buildings, energy efficient buildings, using public electric buses and trams, eating at suitable cafes/restaurants. In fact 47% of Oslo is Green!
Rent a private sauna boat

Visiting one of the many floating saunas in downtown Oslo. The urban sauna culture is quite popular. I believe it is a unique experience that creates a sense of relaxation. The saunas in Oslo combine not only views of nature and the Oslo Fjord, but also a warm, cozy sauna and offer great health benefits. You can also rent a private sauna for your group and cruise the islands. I can join along and share unique stories of the islands, the Oslo fjord and the way of living in Oslo.
