Game Drive at Sundowner

A sundowner drive here follows the edge of the Zambezi River, usually entering the park late afternoon when the heat is dropping and wildlife starts moving back toward water. The experience is shaped by the river almost the whole time. You can expect sightings of elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile along the channels, and regular antelope like impala and kudu in the woodland. If you’re lucky, sable or even lion can appear, especially in the quieter sections away from the main riverfront. Birdlife is strong too—fish eagles, bee-eaters, herons, and kingfishers all becoming active again as the light softens. The drive builds toward sunset at one of the scenic points along the river. This is the highlight: golden light reflecting off the Zambezi, often with silhouettes of elephants or hippos in the water or reeds. It’s a very atmospheric stop rather than a rushed one—you pause, set up drinks, and let the landscape do the work.

**Zambezi National Park Sundowner Game Drive** **Pick up:** 15h00 from hotel/lodge in Victoria Falls. Depart town and enter Zambezi National Park, following the Zambezi River corridor and mixed woodland. **Game viewing (15h30–17h30):** Afternoon safari exploring riverine and woodland habitats. Common sightings include elephant, buffalo, impala, kudu, giraffe and sometimes sable or lion in quieter areas. Hippo and crocodile are regularly seen along the river channels. Birdlife becomes active as temperatures drop, with fish eagles, kingfishers, bee-eaters and herons frequently encountered. Stops are made for photography and interpretation. **Sundowner (17h30–18h15):** Stop at a scenic Zambezi River viewpoint. Enjoy drinks while watching sunset over the river, often with wildlife silhouettes and excellent photographic light. **Return (18h15–18h30):** Slow drive out of the park after sunset. Possible nocturnal sightings en route. Drop-off at hotel/lodge by ±18h30.
