Explore Luderitz your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Luderitz tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Luderitz for every interest, including:

History tours: Wander the eerie streets of Kolmanskop with stories of the diamond rush and its ice factory and bowling alley, then continue to Shark Island to learn about its difficult past and the role of the harbour. Your guide can add Diaz Point for the replica cross and crashing Atlantic views.

Layover tours: With pickup from the airport or port, make a fast loop of town highlights—Felsenkirche on the hill, the colourful old railway station, and the waterfront—followed by fresh oysters at a local spot. If time allows, include Kolmanskop’s timed entry before you fly out.

Architecture tours: Step inside Goerke Haus to see its preserved interiors when visiting hours line up, then photograph Art Nouveau and Jugendstil façades along Bismarck and Berg streets. Finish with the sandstone Felsenkirche and a row of wind-sculpted, pastel houses above the bay.

Getting around: The town centre is easy on foot, but Kolmanskop and Diaz Point sit several kilometres away and there’s no public transit. You can book tours with private transportation or ask your guide to arrange a chauffeured vehicle.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Luderitz inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Luderitz

From Lüderitz, you can plan day trips that mix Atlantic bays, wind‑carved rock, and the edge of the Namib Desert.

- Kolmanskop Ghost Town: Step into sand‑filled homes and learn the diamond rush story as you frame striking photos in soft morning light; history fans and photographers get the most here, and your tour can time the visit to beat harsh midday glare.

- Diaz Point and the peninsula: Drive the bays and points for a lighthouse view, a replica cross, seals on the rocks, and birds working the shallows, which suits wildlife watchers and anyone who likes rugged coastlines without long drives.

- Garub Plains and Aus: Watch the wild horses at the waterhole, scan wide desert plains, and loop into Aus for granite hills and traces of rail history, a good fit for scenic drives with short walks and broad horizons.

- Shark Island and Agate Beach: Walk quiet headlands with stark colonial‑era remains on Shark Island, then look for polished stones at Agate Beach or try a quick, cold swim, a simple outing for coastal views close to town.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Luderitz most travellers miss.
