Hello, my name is Asmaa, a licensed and enthusiastic tour guide and one of the few female guides in Morocco. On top of that, I am working with a local Non-Government Organization called Rabat Sale Memoir; my role is to educate teenagers about the importance of their tangible and intangible heritage. I consider myself an outgoing person; I am always looking forward to connecting with people from different cultures. If you are staying for at least a day in Rabat, you should spare 2 hours to visit its twin city, Sale. These two cities are only divided by a river, the Oued Bou Regreg. Sale is one of the oldest city in the entire country of Morocco, having being established as far back as in the 7th century. The city is famous for the corsairs and the white slaves trade during the 17 century. Sale has a very special place in my heart because my family and I used to come here every year for the procession of Candles, which is a yearly festival to commemorate the birth of the prophet, a unique celebration that only happens in Sale city. Being both a local and an experienced, Licensed tour guide, I will be able to give you true insights into the striking city of Sale and its fascinating history.
I would give 10 stars if possible. Asmaa gave a great tour. We learned so much about the people of Salé, as well as many other cultural and historical events. Our experience in Morocco has been truly enhanced by the knowledge she shared. I'm sure her tour of Rabat would be just as interesting. We walked at a comfortable pace for two hours, then she helped by arranging a driver to take us back to our hotel.
Asmaa is an excellent tour guide. She is engaging and knowledgeable. She easily answered all my questions. She is very though, commenting on many subjects as we walked. Had a wonderful experience.
Sale is definitely worth a visit, and Asma is a great guide for this town. With her guidance we were able see the ancient madressa, stroll the souk, and get into the prison where white slaves were held. Asma seems to know everyone and everything, and through her we were able to appreciate the history of the town and its importance due to the Barbary Pirates --fascinating!
Asmaa is amazing. I felt like I gained much more than a basic understanding of Sale. I experienced so much not only of the historical sights but also developed an appreciation of the people. There were not many tourists but people would smile and verbally interact with Asmaa asking her if she was going to show me a sight. A group of schoolboys stopped me in passing wanting to practice their English. I was even able to do a little shopping. It was a wonderful visit and I hope others will have the same opportunity. When I was looking for tours in Rabat, I noticed that Asmaa was the only guide that also did tours in Salé. Since it is so close I figured it would be easy to do in one day. It was a great decision since her knowledge of the knowledge Salé is as extensive as her knowledge of Rabat. My favorite site to visit in Salé, and possibly my favorite place in Morocco so far, was the Médersa mérinide. Immediately upon walking in I was awestruck, and Asmaa clearly adores the médersa as well.
·The tour will start from Bab el-Mrissa, the door of the port located next to the Marina, which was used as a port back in the day. ·Afterwards, we will visit Bab dar Sanaa, which used to be a weaponry arsenal. ·Next, we will walk through the Jewish neighbourhood. ·We will then visit the Old City and see the local market. ·Later, we will stop for a coffee break , where we'll be able to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and some Moroccan sweets. ·After that, we will visit the amazing Merenid Mdersa (a coranic school). ·Next, we will visit the tomb of Sidi Ali Bn Hassoun, a very well known spiritualist. ·Then, we will walk into the Medina where we'll get to see the locals at their shops, and experience how they go about their daily lives. ·In the end, we'll return to the Bab el-Mrisaa where our tour will finish right where it began.
