Hi, I'm Tony. Yokoso (welcome) to Japan, where I have lived for a decade. I specialize in walking and hiking tours of the Hakone region, a beautiful, geologically active, national park also including Mount Fuji. Originally a forester by profession, you will see some of my tours involve light trekking. As we walk, I like to help you experience our wild flora and fauna. Experience Hakone region's pivotal role in Japan's history over the last 5 centuries (starting from Clavell's "Shogun") and local cultural activities. I live in Atami, a cute seaside hot spring resort just 45 minutes from Tokyo station by bullet train, and close to Hakone. Born in Fiji and educated in New Zealand, I have worked in tourism for nearly 3 decades all around Asia/Pacific. I decided to settle in Atami because this region is the most picturesque and interesting place I have experienced. As well as guiding tours I consult to the Shizuoka Prefectural Government on local tourism development, which has given me lots of ideas for experiences that enable you to touch grass-roots Japan. Hike Old Shimoda Foot Highway Along the Spine of Izu Peninsula
Overview of your Izu tour
8 miles of rolling hiking along river valleys clothed in 19th century indigenous plantation forest. Refresh body and soul in this historical kaleidoscope of gushing waterfalls and pristine ponds. In feudal times Shimoda Foot Highway connected Izu Peninsula's southern port of Shimoda with Mishima, about 70kms to the north. Japan's Izu Peninsula is geographically unique in being the only part of the country to sit on top of the Philippine's tectonic plate. Izu was originally an island located south of the Japanese mainland. The northward movement of the Philippine plate eventually brought the island into contact with the mainland, forming the current peninsula. Understandably, a considerable amount of volcanic activity manifests in this movement, earning Izu Peninsula UNESCO Global Geopark status.

--0800 Meet me Mishima Station -Purchase sandwiches or lunch box at convenience store (own arrangement) in front of Mishima Station to take with us) Catch local train to Shuzenji, local bus to hike start point -Our hiking route runs north-south along two consecutive river valleys, separated by Izu Peninsula's tallest mountain, Amagi Range, which runs east-west roughly bisecting our course. Last hour of our hike is its climax, the famous 7 Falls walk. -5pm Catch bus to Kawazu Station, tour concludes
