Overview of your Syracuse tour
Among the white stone streets of South-East Sicily, the baroque style emerges and stands out among the façades of churches and palaces. A sign of an eighteenth century flavoured reconstruction. Cities reborn under the rubble of the 1693 earthquake, mark the history and style of this era, showing themselves in a rich and majestic beauty. Through this two-day tour, we will trace back together the history of the most typical baroque cities. I grew up in this area, so I know all its stories and secrets. . . Come with me and you will feel like you are travelling back in time! A journey between the Greek world and the Baroque culture.
Your Syracuse tour itinerary
DAY 1: Siracusa and Noto. Pick up in Syracuse. First we will visit the Archaeological Park: the Greek Theatre, the Altar of Hieron II, the Ear of Dionysius, the Latomia del Paradiso, the Roman Amphitheatre. Then, the historical center of Syracuse: Ortygia Island. We will visit the Cathedral, built "inside" Greek temple, the Fountain of Arethusa, symbol of Ortigia and other important monuments. Finally we will go to Noto, the European capital of the Baroque and Unesco Patrimony. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Sicilian art. A splendid historical centre where you can admire many civil and religious monuments like Santa Chiara, SS, Salvatore, Cathedral S. Nicolo, Ducezio Palace, Nicolaci Street with its amazing balconies. DAY 2: Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Donnafugata Castle. We will see, the baroque towns of Ragusa Ibla and Modica, where we will have a chocolate tasting. Also, a very unusual castle: Donnafugata. We will see the interior and a magnificent park. Drop off in Syracuse.
