This was a fabulous day, and worth every penny. This is off the beaten path but is a window into lesser known Roman and Church history. There is a lot of walking at Hadrian's Villa, which is more like a city, bieng almost three times the area as the Vatican. However the site is largely flat. The afternoon at Villa D'Este was an excellent counter point. We are septuagenarians, and were able to manage the tour ( we slept very well that night). The cultural rewards were well worth the effort. The pizza break at Alice's enabled us to gather our strength for the elevation challenges at D'Este. Francesca is a delight to be with. Her xx years of archaeological experience provided some keen insights into the methods of construction. Don't miss it.
