Located in one of the Rome's most interesting and fascinating villas, the Borghese Gallery was built at the beginning of the 16th century for the Cardinal Scipione Borghese, patron in Rome of the young Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It houses one of the world finest and priceless fine art collection, enriched with sculptures and paintings produced by masters such as Bernini, Raphael, Caravaggio, Canova, Rubens, Caravaggio, and Titian. We will visit the rooms admiring the Caravaggio's masterpieces with his unique use of "chiaroscuro" (darkness and light), the Canova's Paolina, the Titian's Sacred and Profane Love, the Raphael's Deposition from the cross, and the Bernini masterpieces! What a knowledgeable and easy to understand guide who is so passionate about the amazing Borghese Gallery and Gardens. Although I have been to the Gallery before, unfortunately without a guide like Dino, I learned about and saw so much than I had not seen before. Dino will open your eyes.
This tour is great and our guide Dino Margiotta happened to be exceptionally knowledgeable, passionate, artistic, willing to provide as much information as possible, sharing with us his deep love to, and encyclopaedical knowledge of history, architecture and art. We never had this kind of tour experience before and enjoyed it very much. We highly recommend this tour and especially this guide!
We absolutely loved our tour of the Borghese Galleries with Dino! He is an incredible guide, very professional and passionate about what he does, and he made the artwork come to life. It would have been a far inferior experience without Dino - he told us the story of Paul V's nepotism and his nephew Scipione Borghese, their patronage of Bernini and Caravaggio, and pointed out subtle details and features of the art that were absolutely essential but that we would have completely missed on our own.
The meeting point is 30 mins before tour begins even if we are allowed only two hours in this museum. Note that it is compulsory to deposit every kind of bag, purse, umbrella. I remind you that this tour can be customized in order to fulfil your wishes and expectations and to design your own perfect Borghese Gallery Tour. * Note that upon request I can add one more hour to accomodate a custom tour by including also the stunning Borghese Garden (Villa Borghese) surrounding the Museum, a wonderful natural setting that houses beautiful fountains, monuments, gardens, a lake and flora.
