Hello I'm Nicola and I was born and raised in Trastevere in the very centre of Rome. Since I was a child I loved to show my places to friends and visitors and make them feel completely at ease walking in the narrow streets of my city. Today many things are changed…I remember during the 80s when the area was full of handmade workshops, the kids like me were still playing soccer in the streets and you could feel a strong identity of the neighborhood. Nowadays many restaurants and clubs have been opened and the noise of the trolleys on the "sanpietrini" (the typical kind of pavement in the centre of Rome) can be heard everywhere! Anyway a real Rome still exists and it is exactly this one I want to show you, your buddies or your kids. I can arrange tour for families as well, I have three kids. I attended the classical high school, I graduated in "Geography" .The passion of showing my city and its surroundings became a real work almost more than ten years ago when I started to work with the Richmond University in Rome carrying out outdoor activities for the students. At the moment I collaborate also with other American universities based in Rome organizing all the "not touristic" tours. In the last five years I started to carry out private tours for travelers who want to visit the "other side" of Rome creating personalised itineraries. I'm a curious and positive person and my background of studies allows me to show you the city from a geographical point of view focusing on a mix of historical information, anecdotes and curiosities involving as much as possible the participants. Social aspects, history, Architecture, anecdotes about Rome and a bit of culinary make my experiences much more appealing and complete to understand different aspects of the Italian culture. I'm also a tireless traveler and I am convinced that having spent so much time in contact with other cultures allows me to enter easily in tune with people. During my tours I like to stop by my favourite places to have a coffee, a supplì (ball of rice with mozzarella inside typical of Rome), a slice of pizza or a gelato. Most of my itineraries are by bicycle or electric bicycle since I've always loved to ride my bike. In recent years I started promoting cycling in Rome with a bicycle association, for which I'm the president, most of all through elementary school educational projects. What is important for me is your complete satisfaction and I will do my best to match your needs. If there is something specific you want to visit, to eat or know I will be glad to make it possible, just let me know. Write me also to have any suggestion or advice about Rome and its surroundings, it will be a pleasure to help you. I can costumize any of the tours according to your needs and expectations, just let me know. I am not a driver but I can arrange transport from the place you are to the meeting point, even for shore excursions. See you soon.

Overview of your Rome tour

We will go around for about two hours in the neighborhoods of Testaccio and Ostiense. I will be glad to show you aspects of the city that otherwise you would probably not get to know, exploring areas with an ancient history that were shaped by continuous transformations up to recent times, also being reinvented as alternative centers of the Roman night life. The walk starts from Testaccio district which was home to the Emporium port, where the bulk of the Romans' food supply funneled into the city and it ends in the quirky Ostiense neighborhood, with its modern vibes, hosts Rome's universities and is rich in art, culture, and cuisine. During the walk it will be possible to guess important people drawn in a mural; walk by the most ancient artificial hill of history; eat the best Roman sandwich in town; enter in a very peculiar cemetery, admire the best-preserved pyramid of Rome; enter in an occupied building and much more! NOT available on Sunday since some places to visit are closed!

What a refreshing tour! After dealing with the crowds of tourists in the central city, it was a pleasure to see a quiet neighborhood where real Romans live. Nicola was a pleasure to spend time with. He was informative and friendly. This is not a tour for the "typical" tourist, but if you want something unique this is your tour!

Nicolas gave my wife and I a lovely tour of the the Testaccio rione, an area that had been the port of ancient Rome, then industrial Rome in the 1800's and now an artistic area. The tour was both relaxed and very informative, and a nice counterpoint to the intense experiences in visiting the ancient roman tourist attractions.

Nicola was a fantastic guide, taking my wife and I on a terrific tour through an area of Rome far less frequently explored--and in a way as wheelchair-accessible as the city of Rome would allow. If you like seeing a side of Rome well beyond what other tourists see and other tours offer, I can't recommend this enough.

Had a lovely time seeing parts of Rome you typically would not see as a tourist. Nicola is has a very chill personality and the is based on your preferences. We saw some great graffiti, visited a food market and a beautiful cemetery. It was a very hot day but he made sure to keep a nice pace in the shaded areas. Very thoughtful.

Nicola met us at the suggested location and took us on a walking tour of the Testaccio and Ostiense districts. He did an excellent job of introducing us to these areas that we would never have found on our own. He's interesting and friendly! This tour was a great complement to the traditional tours of the more well known areas of Rome.
