Hi! I'm Albert, I had my first walk in the mountains when I was 25 and it's still well impressed on my memory. It was a cool, sunny day in August and I walked for around two hours in a wood, along a nice, large track, enjoying the bird songs and the wood fragrances. At the end of that walk I was incredibly hungry, on one side, and on the other side I had a new deep feeling of well-being, totally unknown to me. An abundant meal stopped my hunger pains whereas that special, curiously positive feeling continued until late that night! Afterwards, I've spent many summer holidays in those mountains, quite close to the Austrian border, each time enjoying that amazing feeling. The longer I walked the deeper and stronger it got. I experienced the Mountain in many different ways, walking any kind of footpaths, wide and narrow, easy and dangerous, climbing exposed via ferratas as well; I also did sport climbing for a certain time. And I learned to respect the mountain. In the late 1990s, I saw Lake Orta for the first time and it really struck me, an amazingly peaceful place where time seems to have stopped. In 2005 I decided to move here from the city, more and more enchanted by the beauty of nature of this romantic lake. In 2014 I passed the exams to become a licensed Hiking Guide and since then I've made of walking and leading people through nature my profession. I mostly work as a Hiking Guide in the Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore area and in the north-eastern Dolomites. I'm also a Nordic Walking Instructor and since 2015 I've been holding Base/Advanced Nordic Walking Courses on the amazing Lake's hills. A customized tour can be planned on your preferences. Just ask me I'll arrange the best experience for you! I'm a Licensed Hiking Guide since 2014. A Hiking Guide is a professional figure, under Regione Piemonte legislation (33/2001), entitled to guide tourists along hiking tracks. Obtaining the license of Hiking Guide requires a training process which includes an aptitude-tests admission, a 400-hour course in order to learn not only the technical aspects of hiking and group leading but also the most important aspects of flora, fauna, geology, history, traditions of the territory. After passing the final test you'll get your Licence. Under respect of local legislation and EU directive, Licensed Hiking Guides are allowed to practise in all U.E. I can arrange for a separate car and driver. I am not permitted to accompany you on glaciers where alpine equipment is required. In case of bad weather, for the safety of the participants, the itinerary may change at the discretion of the guide.

Overview of your Orta tour

Lake Orta is a truly magical place, with a special beauty and peace, and during your first visit, you are quite likely to fall in love with the area, whether for its natural beauty, the warmth of the people, or the beautiful clean water and air. You will be enchanted. . . Legro: since 1998 the little village of Legro has become a peculiar tourist destination thanks to the splendid, colourful frescoes decorating the historic centre. The subjects of the murals painted on the walls of the village were inspired by the work of the local poet and writer Gianni Rodari, and by films made in the Lake Orta area. Vacciago: the elegant hamlet with it's refined villas and gardens, is positioned on a delightful natural balcony which overlooks the eastern side of Lake Orta. This walking itinerary follows rural and ancient paths and secondary roads with little traffic.

Your Orta tour itinerary

- From your hotel or the central Piazza Motta along the main road to start the old pathway "Via Prisciola", a panoramic walk which arrives in Corconio, the beautiful baroque hamlet with stone houses, cobbled street and decorated villas. - We will continue on an easy pathway among private gardens, to reach the Church of San Antonio Abate, on a panoramic terrace over the lake. The church is located in the southern part of Vacciago, the elegant hamlet with important villas and palazzo of 17th and 18th century. - Our walk will continue to arrive at the "Santuario della Madonna della Bocciola", which was built in 1754, to commemorate a miracle which occurred on 28th May 1543. - From there, we will admire the breathtaking panorama over the lake, with its island in the middle and the massif of Monte Rosa in the far distance. - A pathway into centenary chestnut wood will take us to Legro, the "Painted Hamlet" and, in a few minutes back to Orta. Nature art and peacefulness merge in this fulfilling itinerary!
