I was born in Northern Italy by a Florentine mother and a Mantuan father, so I grew up within these two wonderful cultures: school and friends in Mantua, holidays and extended family in Florence. When it came to pick up college I followed my heart and choose Florence, because I felt this is where I belong to. After college I lived in Austria and Germany, then I came back and attended professional schools to become a cooking instructor. I already had an incredible base, due to my origins: the Mantua cooking is famous for home made pasta, risotto, stews and cakes, while Tuscany…. . . well I just need to mention one above all: extra virgin olive oil. This is the reason why I suggest that, you spare some time for food, wine and good olive oil while visiting Florence, its churches and its museums: If you want to discover the secrets of the Tuscan cooking, or how to understand if you are using an extra virgin olive oil of high quality or come to appreciate not only Chianti wine but also the other wonderful Tuscan wines, just ask me and I will organize a food and wine tour in town or in the countryside, which might end up at my house for a quick lunch or even a cooking class. Listen to the story of my family and its cooking tradition while visiting San Lorenzo food market, then come to my apartment and prepare Pizza and Biscotti for your lunch. That's the best way to make the best of your second/third visit to Florence, especially if you are travelling with your family.
This was the highlight of the trip for us. In addition to her welcoming us into her home, we all enjoyed learning so much about day-to-day life and culture in Italy. We really liked the hands on activity and Silvia was a wonderful teacher and person!
We had the most perfect day with Silvia! She shared history and traditions of Italian foods and regional specialties as we stopped at a traditional bakery, wine bar and the San Lorenzo market filled with wonderful displays of cheeses, meats, fish, produce. We then cooked together in her beautiful kitchen and enjoyed a delicious lunch of the pizza and cantucci we had chosen for our Tuscan cooking experience. We highly recommend a cooking class with Silvia—she is such a knowledgeable and fun teacher… and a lovely hostess. PS Silvia is also a certified olive oil taster.

Sylvia gave us a wonderful tour of the Florence market. Then she patiently taught my 12 year old granddaughter to make delicious pizza and biscottis. The lunch was great! Sylvia is a talented chef with deep knowledge of the food of Italy. I highly recommend her tour.

- We meet at hotel Baglioni and from there we all go to the San Lorenzo food market. - After a thourough visit of the market itself with explanations about the most famous Italian products and tastings of Balsamic Vinegar, Parmesan Cheese, Prosciutto and Salami we head to my place where we prepare a pizza and original Italian biscotti. - When everything is ready you sit down and have your lunch served accompanied by a glass of Chianti wine. We use the surface metro line from the city center to my apartment. Taxi is the best transportation from myapartment to downtown. In case you rent a van with driver, he will drive you to my location and pick you up at the end of the class
