Trained as an authorized tourist guide in Copenhagen, and now living in the province gives me a unique opportunity to arrange your tour in Denmark. From my studies in the capital I know most of the strets and the great and secluded places in Copenhagen, but I now consider myself lucky to live in the pensinsula of Jutland in the western part of Denmark. Denmark is the oldest kingdom in the world and here in the area we have some of the most significant proofs on that. The oldest town in Denmark, Ribe from 700 AD and Jelling, the first Unesco World Heritage site in Denmark as well as Christiansfeld, a candidate to become World Heritage. The history of Denmark is important for the way we feel as Danes today. Whereever you are in Denmark, you'll experience stories about the vikings, about our kings over the centuries and you will see beautiful cities, towns and landscapes. I have conducted guided tours in most part of Denmark. In Copenhagen as well as Dragør, the old fishingvillage only 7 miles away from the city as well as to Roskilde with the cathedral and the fascinating vikingships. On Funen to Odense, the birthplace of our great fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen and to the castle Egeskov, which is almost a fairytale castle. In and around Aarhus with it's fantastic artmuseum, Aros as well as the openair museum Den Gamle By and also to the Lake District and the site of the viking fortress Fyrkat. And my own area with Ribe and Jelling as well as the fantastic ruin castle in Kolding and biking- and walkingtours in the beautiful hilly landscape of Eastern Jutland. So welcome to Denmark; I am looking forward to arranging a tour for you; look at the suggestions on the site and ask for customizing a tour especially for you! I'll be looking forward to tell you these and many other stories. . . . Authorised Tourist Guide Qualified School Teacher - Due to licence and insurance issues I cannot act as driver/guide. From my childhood I remember having been in Ribe with my parents, having walked the steps up the 50 m high tower, watching out over the plain in the marsh-land. Standing there with a 360 degrees look around you, one can imagine the vikings coming in the river to the trading post established in the early 700'ds. Over the last years numerous guests have had the same experience, getting stunned over this small, but historically great town. Ribe is founded in 710 and is the oldest town in Denmark with reminiscences from the viking age; the middle ages through the marvelous Romanesque cathedral, the renaissance with many houses from the 1500 and onwards. You will hear stories about the Bohemian princess arriving here in early 1200 to become the queen of Denmark, about the last witch hunt in Denmark, about merchants in town and the importance of the harbour and the sluices and much more.
Visit the cathedral and walk up the tower for a beautiful view of the area over the Wadden Sea. We also visit the Saint Catharina Church with its beautiful monestary court yard. Please note, that churches can be closed due to weddings, funerals etc. We walk around the medieval town with its beautiful houses, the dam, the river and the sluices and hear about famous persons from Ribe; among others Jacob Riis. If you want we can also walk to the site of the previous castle with a great view and the story of queen Dagmar. Coffee or lunch stop at your own cost. If you want we can visit the museum Ribes Vikinger telling the story about Ribe in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages or the Art Museum with a great selection of paintings from the Danish Golden Age in the romantic period. These museum tickets are not included in the tour. Both museums closed Mondays part of the year.

Walking tour in town. Ribe is a very small town with narrow cobble stone streets. Distances are short.
Ribe, 6760, Denmark
Meet by sculpture of Ansgar to the right side of the entrance to the cathedral. It is an abstract sculpture with the name Ansgar on it.
