This day trip will let you explore the Kaiping area (around 2 hours' drive from Guangzhou), which is famous for its world-class architectural and cultural heritage—the Diaolou (watchtowers), fortress-like village houses built in the early 1900s by overseas Chinese migrant workers, and the surrounding ancient villages. Travelling in a private car, you will visit several UNESCO-listed sites (such as Li Garden and Zili Village) in the countryside, with vast farmlands, livestock sheds, and fishponds along the way. Kaiping and Taishan are also the hometown for many overseas Chinese. If you are returning to visit and looking for your ancestor's house, we can assist and arrange such a tour for you. We will follow up with you to finalise the itinerary after you book this tour.
Kaiping Diaolou and Villages – Marvel at the iconic watchtowers that combine Chinese village design with Western architectural flourishes, built as fortified homes by returning overseas Chinese in the early 20th century. Zili Village – A UNESCO World Heritage site featuring a compact cluster of well-preserved watchtowers, set amid serene farmland and ancestral halls that tell the story of the village's diaspora history. Li Garden – A picturesque private garden where ornate Chinese pavilions meet Western-style watchtowers, complete with arched corridors, intricate carvings, and a peaceful lotus-filled pond.
