Being a tour guide is the job I would do for free if I didn't need the money. . . but alas, we all have adult responsibilities and bills to pay! Most people around here can talk your ear off about the charms of Newfoundland and Labrador. Come visit us and and see why. Let me show you around. I am a native of the province with a great deal of experience from one end of it to the other. I was born in Labrador, grew up on the Northern Peninsula and South Coast, went to University on the West Coast, and have now lived in St. John's for 25 years. During this time I have studied local folklore, biology, geography, and history. And I've working in the field of culture and heritage for many years, running the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, several theater and music festivals, and all manner of cultural tourism events. I have been offering my services as a professional tour guide for 14 years; and my experience includes hosting both large and small groups, individual travelers, visiting dignitaries, and travel writers from around the world. Allow me to show you around our beautiful capital city of St. John's and some of the surrounding areas. There are many exciting and interesting things to see here; we are bursting at the seams with historic sites, magnificent churches, great architecture, majestic icebergs, migrating whales and seabirds, world class hiking trails, amazing music and art, alongside some very colorful local characters and the friendliest people you'll ever meet. It's the oldest city in North America, with a colorful history and rich culture. Here you can find the old traditions of Newfoundland everywhere you turn, often right alongside the best in cutting edge design and world class cuisine. There's much to see and do here. Would you like to explore the quaint and picturesque Quidi Vidi Village, nestled in the middle of St. John's for over 400 years ? How about a drive out to Cape Spear to see the lighthouses and the most easterly point in North America? A jaunt up Signal Hill is an absolute must since it has it all: scenic vistas, geological wonders, a history of great battles and transatlantic firsts, and many other delights. Maybe we can travel around the downtown to see the magnificent churches, our fantastic museum and historic sites, do a little shopping for local crafts, or grab some lunch at one of the local pubs or a hot new restaurant. Our guide Sherry was awesome! On time, knowledgeable, friendly, and a great driver. She was sensitive to our physical needs and our interests and she ensured we had an informative and memorable experience in our first tour in St. John's, NL. Within 15 minutes of meeting her, it was like we were being show the sites by old friend. Highly recommend.
We loved our Tours By Locals tour with Sherry H! She met us at our ship in the morning and we had a wonderful time exploring St Johns. She is knowledgeable about the history of the area and was happy to show us everything! We made a stop for lobster rolls at a “local” restaurant and we loved them! We enjoyed the tour and her local knowledge of the area. We stopped for lots of pictures and would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to enjoy a great tour of the area and a stop for some local crafts and the required Newfoundland souvenirs!
