ToursByLocals - a perfect description of what I can offer you. A 6th generation Tasmanian, born in Launceston, you can't find a more local tour guide than myself. I have been working in the tourism industry, specifically selling Tasmania as a holiday destination, for more than 30 years, and my product knowledge on all things Tasmania is vast and comprehensive. During my tours I share my knowledge with you and go into great depth on any subject about Tasmania, from how the island was shaped and formed, to our indigenous people - how they got here, how they lived, what happened through British colonisation to how their communities live today. I can talk about our native animals, describing how they look and live, their life cycle and breeding habits. All our major industries - mining, agriculture, tourism, fishing, forestry, education, racing, manufacturing etc etc. I can discuss all our trees, where you find specific species, what they were used for. How we generate electricity, social issues, politics. I offer a large variety of discussion topics, so we won't run out of things to talk about on tour (so unless you tell me to be quiet - I do talk all day!) I am passionate about Tasmania. I love the quiet wilderness locations and finding perfect spots where there seems to be no-one else and you are only one experiencing the beauty Tasmania has to offer. Cradle Mountain National Park, Bay Of Fires, Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay. Hidden away waterfalls, rainforest walks, secluded beaches. Tasmania has it all. I also love to eat and Launceston was settled specifically to develop agriculture, so if it is food and wine you are into then there are a multitude of options available in the Tamar Valley and Meander Valley. Being one of Australia's earlier settlements, history and beautiful sandstone villages are abundant in the north of Tasmania, so if history is your passion then Tasmania is the perfect location. Wildlife Parks offer a variety of our native animals, especially Tasmanian Devils and Quolls (sorry no Tasmanian Tigers for viewing but if you see one yell out). Low Head offers the opportunity to watch Fairy Penguins come ashore nightly. Underground caves, deep gorges, fertile countryside, amazing lookouts. Tasmania is so diverse, there is so much to see and do. With my experience I offer popular tour itineraries that I have developed over many years of tour guiding, but if you have a specific destination or theme I can easily develop a Customised Tour just for you. I welcome you to book one of my tours. Because of its natural beauty, the Cradle Mountain National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tasmania. Invigorating mountain air, spectacular scenery, an iconic visit. Listed as a World Heritage Area by the United Nations to protect its unique pristine wilderness, its global significance is for all to see and experience. The viewing point for Cradle Mountain is from Dove Lake, and while you are there you have three hiking options. You may choose to walk around Dove Lake which takes approximately two and a half hours at a brisk pace, suitable for medium level of fitness. For those with good - high level of fitness, then Marions Lookout is a difficult uphill walk, but the views are spectacular - well worth the effort (weather permitting). And if you have a lower level of fitness, then there are a multitude of short walk options in the area, along with a short walk along Dove Lake there is Waldheim Chalet, Weindorfer's Forest, perhaps Enchanted Walk and Pencil Pine Falls.
• Departing Launceston approximately 8. 30am • Half way to Cradle Mountain visit the 'Town of Murals' Sheffield for a comfort break • Cradle Mountain National Park • Hiking options at Dove Lake (see tour overview) • Break the return journey at Ashgrove Cheese Factory • Returning back into Launceston at 6. 00pm-ish • Please be aware if there are heavy snow falls through Winter, the tour itinerary may have be to be adjusted. • Marions Lookout will not be an option in snow and ice due to safety concerns.
