While crunching numbers for some of our European destinations this morning, we noticed an interesting trend. Bookings in Reykjavik and the surrounding area are up 100% over this time last year. Our staff at trade shows this winter had also noticed an increase in the number of people inquiring about
guides in Iceland.
Iceland has been busy marketing itself as both a gateway destination to other European cities, and a worthwhile destination in its own right. WOW Airlines and Iceland Air both offer aggressively-priced flight options from major U.S. and Canadian cities to European cities, flying via Reykjavik. And of course they also offer direct flights to Reykjavik - WOW flights are sometimes priced as low as $99 each way.
In Reykjavik,
our guides Stefan, Guðrln, Lisa and Ragnar offer all sorts of urban and outdoors adventures. You can explore the colourful capital city and its suburbs to sample traditional food and learn about life as a local in Reykjavik. Outside the city, the options for spell-binding scenery and gentle adventure are endless: hunt for the Northern Lights in winter; see geysers, waterfalls, glaciers and volcanoes; take a birding or photography tour; and perhaps soak in the country's famous hot springs.
If you're planning a visit to this magical place, you'll want to choose and book your ToursByLocals guide soon. As Iceland becomes an increasingly accessible and appealing option, we've noticed a big uptick in inquiries and bookings from American and European travellers, even at this early point in the season. Our four guides are going to have their hands full with visitors this summer, and are looking forward to meeting a fresh crop of ToursByLocals travellers!
