My name is Luís, but most people know me by my family name, Pena. My curiosity for traveling and knowing new cultures in the world was always evident, I've always said since I was little that when I grew up I want to become a tourist, and that's what I am nowadays. My life in tourism has already taken me to travel and get to know different realities. I started by going to the Highlands, where I worked in hospitality and various other departments, specifically in Edinburgh. I also had the possibility to check out the madness of the Balearic Islands as a hotel animator. But it was my country that I fell in love with, its history, traditions, gastronomy, and the relaxed way we always find solutions to problems. I think the main feature on my tours is my enthusiasm. My passions are to be around nature and do outdoor sports, although these days my free time is spent with my baby girl. I am a local guide in the city of Lisbon, but I know Portugal and its islands very well and for this reason, I can customize any of your tours here according to your preferences. Get to know Lisbon in a relaxed way, while I tell you travel stories. Being a storyteller is one of the main goals of a Tour Guide. I believe I can make a difference on this because of my experience and knowledge of 11 years guiding. Unfortunately, the profession of official guide is not accredited in Portugal, making anyone who has historical knowledge, supposed tour guides. There are only two entities accredited in Portugal: Snatti and Agic. I am a member of one: Snatti. A charming village located in a Natural Park with castles and grand mansions used as summer houses for the Portuguese royalty It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and due to its natural beauty and unique atmosphere. Choose in between Pena Palace or Regaleira gardens. In 1865, the country's vineyards were devastated by phylloxera. But the Colares vineyards were unharmed, find the reason, while tasting a 6-year-old Colares wine, in one of the only cellars of this spectacular wine. The traditions of this villages continue to have unusual life habits, they recreate the way of life of Portugal's ancestors. Since the 13th century, Colares wine has enjoyed a noble status, often being taken to royal tables. This wine you cannot find in a regular wine store.
Your Lisbon tour itinerary
- Start your day with a guided visit through Sintra’s most iconic landmark; Pena Palace or the masonic garden of Regaleira. -Visit Sintra’s historic center and have some free time to taste the traditional pastries of the region: the famous “Queijadas” and “Travesseiros”. -Be amassed by the beauty of the landscape mixed with the colors of the ocean at Sanctuary of peninha, definitely a highlight on this tour. -We'll then stop in a vineyard path, located close to the sea and subject to strong sea winds. Regional vineyards are protected by reeds. -Before our tasting, we will do a stop in Azenhas do mar, a second home for many Lisboans, namely with tiles on the facades. Traditionally, the main activities were agriculture, wine and some fishing shellfish (barnacles and limpets). - Last stop, the cellar of Colares, the unique characteristics are due to its grape varieties, soil and humid climate in the summer.
