Hello! My name is Marco, I am from Portugal and I have been a Tour Guide/Tour Driver since 2018. I started my journey in 2014 when I decided that I wanted to have a college degree, and because I am born and bread Douro Valley I thought that the best idea would be starting to learn a little bit more about tourism, so I went to College and took a Tourism Management degree in my hometown Lamego. Then I decided to go to Lisbon, tried my luck and between 2018 and 2020 I was a national tour guide, travelling from North to South, guiding tourists throughout my beautiful country. I lived in Lisbon for 5 years, but then "saudade" (the feeling of longing something or someone) got the best of me and me and my family decided to go back to my hometown and give our kids a chance to grow outside of the city but with nature, healthier food and better life conditions than in the city of Lisbon, and that was the best we could have done, we are more than happy here and we love to be here I love to drive, I love to explain the foundation of our country to someone that is visiting our country. We are also a family of 5 with me, my wife and our 3 lovely kids. I love food, love wine, love history and I love to travel on my country to experience different foods, different cultures even that we can see even in this small country. I always loved tourism, but because of the Covid-19 Pandemic I was not able to focus on my goal to become a better tour guide, so I needed to pause this job for a few years. I have now decided that it is time to go back doing something that I love which is showing the unexplored parts of our country. I think that what makes me love my job is the fact that me, as a local born and bread Douro Valley tour guide is the fact that I can get in touch with the locals and also know those little known spots that can show what indeed the inner Portugal is like. I love those untouched spots that are not filled with tourists so that I can show our visitors the true Portuguese soul and that will be one of my main goals. Because I am also from the Douro Valley I love wine, one of the main exports of our region, and I would love to show this to anyone that wants to see and experience for themselves. For me my family is my center, I love them and I love to see my kids grow healthy and with happiness. For me, to show my country to visitors is a dream come true and I will continue to love this forever I have a Tourism Degree from ESTGL, University from Lamego, graduating suma cum laude in 2017 I also have a RNAAT(Registration for Agents of Tourism) with the number1372/2018 that can be checked out at our Tourism Portal of Tourism of Portugal Groups more than 9 I need at least 2 months advance notice

Overview of your Douro Valley tour

Lamego is a small city in the center of Portugal, still located on the Douro Valley Region, the oldest demarcarted region in the world Along with a lot of Manor Houses that belonged to big wine producers, this small town was the location where supposedly the Cortes of Lamego happened, a meeting between lords in the XII century that decided that Afonso Henriques would be our first King of Portugal Along with that, Lamego also has an amazing Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remédios with its amazing staircase and also an amazing city center filled with life Because I was born in this small town I know all the small streets and locations so that we can enjoy this amazing city
