It's hard to imagine that an island the size of Malta has so much history and has been so involved, even influential at times, in world history. The island boasts an incredible legacy and as a fully licensed local Maltese guide, I am very proud and excited to share this with you. I read for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Malta in English, Archaeology and History of Mediterranean Civilization. I have worked in museums abroad during my travels: The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago and Hershey Museum and Archives, Hershey, Pennsylvania. I volunteered with the Malta Archaeological Society and the local Notarial Archives. I am also an active member of Din L-Art Ħelwa which is the local National Trust. I decided to put all this to good use and enrolled at the Institute of Tourism Studies from where I graduated first in class in tourist guiding. History can sometimes seem like a list of disjointed and distant events, so I like to give my tours a social element although always keeping to the facts. Our predecessors were, after all, just people, like us today, eking out a living to survive on our glorious rock! University of Malta. Bachelor of Arts in English, Archaeology and History of Mediterranean Civilization. Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies, Mt Carroll, IL. Collections Care Core Curriculum. Institute of Tourism Studies, Malta. Higher National Diploma in Tourist Guiding. I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Overview of your Valletta tour

The islands are scattered with numerous prehistoric temple remains. Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra are one such complex, built with massive limestone blocks. One temple at Mnajdra was precisely built to mark the sun rise on the first day of each season. Was it necessary to have so many temples on a small island? Who was this almighty deity that the population felt compelled to honour with temples of huge megalithic stones rather than small more practical ones? Or was there an ulterior motive, were the island's inhabitants sending out a message of power and might? Why then, did this culture disappear? The island embraced new cultures in the Bronze Age, with the Phoenicians and were then enveloped in the Roman Empire and subsequently destroyed by the Arabs from North Africa. Building begins again from the 13th century and Mdina is witness to this with its noble homes and churches which were embellished in the Baroque style in the 18th Century. Let's find the answers to our questions!

Kathryn is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. We really enjoyed our time with her and learned a lot. Her family is from Malta, and she was able to share lots of interesting stories from personal experience. We learned so much from prehistoric times to World War II. We would definitely tour with her again!

Our tour of the Temples, modified to include Mdina and Rabat, was one of the most enjoyable and informative tours we have taken in many years of tours. Kathryn's passion for Malta and its history is contagious. Her knowledge is extensive, and her personal anecdotes of growing up on the island added so much charm. She took us down quiet streets that she knew we would enjoy, while others were teeming with tourists and commerce. Her use of transportation apps allowed us to negotiate the island with ease. We highly recommend her as a guide.

Katheryn was an excellent host. She has a wealth of knowledge. She took us to many beautiful places. We even got to hold a falcon by random chance. Highly recommend booking with her.

Our time spent with Kathryn was excellent. She is so knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. Presents in manageable bits (even though there is a lot!). It was a most pleasant day.

Kathryn C is the best possible guide. Kathryn C know and imparts to her clients the complete knowledge of Malta--not only its history going back to prehistoric times, but also the development of all aspects of its culture--the invasions and occupations--and the impact of those occupations on its economy, politics and social norms and mores. More importantly, Kathryn has a gift for understanding what aspects of Malta's history and culture are of interest to each person in a group, and relating the relevant facts or trends to each individual's interest and perspective. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have had Kathryn C as our local guide in Malta for 2 days.

Kathryn is an absolute treasure! She is an engaging and responsive guide with a seemingly endless knowledge of Maltese history. Her experience working on Maltese excavations of prehistoric sites gave her unique insight to the Hagar Qim visit. And her personal knowledge of various families and personalities of significance in Mdina brought that city to life in a way that we couldn't imagine. I can't recommend her strongly enough.
