Eger, surrounded by a beautiful landscape is rich history and monuments - splendid baroque palaces, the castle, memories of the Turkish occupation and the most famous siege of the 16th century, the cathedral, Eger old town is very atmospheric with its old houses, coffees, cobblestone streets and amiable locals. Eger is also the centre of a historical wine region of Hungary, where we can taste the famous, prizewinner Bull's Blood red wine in a prestigious winery. Come with me to spend a joyful day in Eger! We start with visiting the 16th-century castle and its museum, dungueon and armory, from the bastions there is a breathtaking view of the city. In the old city we will see splendid Baroque houses , wrought iron balconies and shop signs, tiny churches, and the oldest Turkish minaret of Europe. The cathedral of Eger was built in the 19th century by the most famous architect of the era, and up today is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings of Hungary. The church is full of frescoes, and some statues were made by Canova.
