I am Karl, a local guide, born and raised in the beautiful British Virgin Islands where I have lived all my life. Sharing the beauty, history and culture of my home is a passion of mine as I truly believe it is a slice of heaven on Earth. As the son of a local historian I grew up taking in the knowledge of our islands and way of life which continues to change with development. Energetic and adventurous by nature I enjoy exploring our Islands and surrounding waters. I am a licensed tour operator with my own transportation, this by law requires me to undergo annual training by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board in customer service and hospitality. I also am required to take a physical exam annually. A Potter by heart and trade, myself along with my wife and son operate an experience based pottery studio where I teach pottery making, give demonstrations, sell our work and conduct tours. Through my teaching I have developed my natural empathetic abilities. I am usually quite good at "reading the crowd", picking up on the individual needs of those in the group and adjusting my style and pace to match. I was raised with strong moral values and believe in being honest, polite and courteous. I enjoy creating a bond with my guests and have actually made friends with a few that I keep in touch with from time to time. Funny enough I was actually encouraged by a couple that I once guided to look into ToursByLocals. As a tour guide I understand the need to be flexible and I always strive to give guests the best experience possible as I am not only representing myself but my beloved home as well. Get hands on instructions in a small private group class. Try the potter's wheel and get your hands muddy while having fun or relax while hand building your very own creation! Pottery making is very beginner friendly and is great fun for both young and old. In addition, see live exciting demonstrations at the potter's wheel all while enjoying the tranquility of the tropical garden where the workshop is placed. You will also have the opportunity to acquire fine crafted pieces from a practicing local artist. This type of clay experience is unique to The Pottery Garden in The Virgin Islands. - Guests are received at their desired staring point and shuttled in air conditioned comfort with historical information about the scenic drive to and from The Pottery Garden(coastal and ridge road). - At the pottery grounds I give a introduction of the grounds and myself as a Ceramic Artist then the pottery class begins. - After all the clay fun, I show you a bit more detail about my outdoor wood fired kiln and tropical garden. Finally, browse through the studio gallery of beautiful handcrafted pottery on sale and get yourself a lovely reminder of your trip to The Virgin Islands. - Next, have a quick look at the wildlife at the pond at Josiah's Bay(including flamingos) and beautiful Josiah's Bay Beach before being shuttled back to your starting point.
