Full-Day Visit To A Stunning Medieval Hilltop Castle, Complete With A Quaint Historical Town Center.

Only about an hour south of the city, Xativa is a wonderful day trip from Valencia. As the second largest city in Kingdom of Valencia after the Christian re-conquest, it held great early economic and church power and was site where one of the most influential European families, the Borgias, where born.

Leaving Valencia, we pass through orange groves and mountain passes to this hilltop town, protected by the walled fortress originally built the Iberian tribes and Romans. The walls you see today were mostly reconstructed by the Moors and in Christian medieval times, which is when Xativa was most powerful. You climb to the top of Xativa will be rewarded with panoramic views of the medieval rooftops and the village below.

A lunch stop is always scheduled during this tour, so I will recommend for you one of several excellently priced spots with fabulous quality dishes that are typical of this area.

Itinerary

We will begin our tour together from your chosen pick-up location, heading south for an approximate 1 hr drive through the southern mountains and orange groves of the region.

Our first destination is the highest point of the mountain in Xativa, where we can access the hilltop castle and explore Iberian, Roman, and medieval sections of this castle.

We can enjoy a coffee break on a terrace overlooking to town and valley below before we venture into the small city center for a walking tour of old Xativa.

After a walking tour of the town, we can stop for lunch, which gives you an opportunity to try local Xativa cuisine, which differs from the traditional food of Valencia. After our lunch, we will return to Valencia where I will drop you off at your chosen location.
