Gastronomy, history and an immersion in the 'Tuscany of Spain'.
Leaving from Valencia we will have a very full and exciting program so it will be a 9am start if possible. Our first stop will be Xativa town 62 km to the south-west where will stroll the streets and visit important monuments associated with the Borjas. Depending on your preferences for lunch we can take the mini train up to the castle at 12. 30 and do a little exploring before enjoying local wines and simple Mediterranean cuisine in the castle's restaurant a must-go for a full 4 star gourmet experience in town. Our next stop will be an organic winery, originally the home of wine-making monks, where we will tour the facilities and do a wine tasting for afternoon tea. A stunning historical farmhouse is the setting for a luxurious night's sleep with the option of honey tour from a master beekeeper. Dinner is optional but a sumptuous breakfast is included. On the way back we will drive to a semi-re-constructed Iberian village, stop for lunch, visit a stunning 13C Cistern Monastery and then return to Valencia.
Leaving Valencia. A quick tour of Xativa town and castle and then lunch. After lunch we drive up to Fontanar dels Alforins, the wonderful 'Tuscany of Spain'. We will have a tour of an historical organic winery, founded by monks and now a family business. You will get an overview of the full process of wine making and some afternoon tea. For our night's accomodation we will do a short drive to a stunning boutique hotel. Dinner is an optional expense, you can also bring your own. There is plenty of scope for evening strolls or a tour of the honey-making installations is included for those interested. The next morning after breakfast we will do a tour of an enigmatic semi-reconstructed Iberian village before stopping for a lunch of local gastronomy and wines. The drive to the Cisternian monastery is not long and we will take our time to soak in the history and ambience of this singular setting. Then back for cocktail hour in Valencia.

60 euros - Your costs will vary depending on whether your lunch in Xativa is to be four-star gourmet or simple but very decent Mediterranean cuisine in the castle restaurant. Dinner in the farmhouse can be arranged and is not included in the tour cost. Guests can bring their own dinner and enjoy it on the stunning terrace of the hotel or order dinner there at a cost of between 10-40 euros pp. Lunch the next day in Moixent is not included, 10 euros for menu of the day or higher.
