a walking tour of scenic and historic Portland
This two-hour walking tour covers much of historic Portland. In addition to the Old Port area, the tour route includes Portland's working waterfront, the Eastern Promenade, Munjoy Hill, with views of Casco Bay and the Calendar Islands, the historic downtown, and the arts district. You'll learn of Portland's colorful past, and also the present: the vibrant music and arts scene and the restaurants that make Portland "America's Foodiest Small Town", according to Bon Appétit magazine. The discussion will also stray into craft beer.
The specific itinerary may vary with our starting location and your interests. Usually, we will start on the waterfront, walk east to the Eastern Promenade, continue to the top of Munjoy Hill, then to the downtown area, the Arts district, and turn into the Old Port for an overview of the architecture, shopping, and restaurants. We will return to our starting point by way of the historic working waterfront.

This was an interesting tour--a lot of information about the city and where it is going. We walked through several neighborhoods that are changing the look of Portland. Discussed the economy of the city and a little of its politics. Not the usual tour of tourist spots. Got an outstanding recommendation for lunch after.
