Kilauea Volcano, Mauna Kea
Starting on the Hilo side of the island we head straight to Volcanoes National Park.
This private tour of Volcanoes National Park offers you the ability to see and do the things you want to do without feeling like a herd of cattle on a large tour bus. We will see the billowing Halema'uma'u Crater at Kilauea Volcano, steam vents, walk through rain forest into a lava tube and drive right through lava flows.
When finished at the park we'll make our way to Mauna Kea with a stop at the visitor center at the 9, 200 foot elevation. It's recommended we stay here for about 30 minutes to acclimate to the higher elevation before making our way to the summit (13, 796 foot elevation). Once acclimated, we make our way up to the summit with stunning views around every turn!
Once we reach the summit, you may be able to see Maui - depending on weather. We'll also go inside a viewing room at Keck Observatory (if it is unlocked when we arrive). The views at the summit are amazing!
Let me show you the beauty of Hawaii!
Please note: Because of the high altitude, this tour is not recommended for those with motion sickness, breathing problems and anyone that has been scuba diving within 24 hours.
Please note: The road to the summit can close at any time and is totally out of my control. If this is the case we will replace the summit with other amazing sights.
From Hilo we drive about 45 minutes to Volcanoes National Park. We usually spend about three hours exploring the park before making our way back to Hilo. Along the way we can stop at an orchid garden and macadamia nut factory. Then we begin are accent to Mauna Kea, which takes about an hour from Hilo.

You are more than welcome to bring sandwiches and other snacks with you.
