La vita è bella

This tour takes you to see the two towns where Benigni shot his oscar winning movie "La vita è bella". Cortona is also famous for another movie, "Under the Tuscan sun" from the bestseller novel by Francis Mayes. This is the provincial, picturesque Tuscany everybody adores.
We stop for lunch in a trattoria to try to "pici" pasta dish with meat sauce, and a bottle of San Giovese.

Itinerary

Our tour starts in Cortona. We walk from the Basilica of Saint Margherita downhill to the main square of the Tuscan town. After a brief lunch, we continue to Arezzo (30 miles) for another walk from the cathedral downhill to the church of Saint Francis, dedicating the afternoon especially to the frescoes of Piero della Francesca.

A Recent Review of this tour

We had a good time with Werner who is a sharp, contemporary guy. Beyond a thorough knowledge of historical fact and lore, being a Belgian who has lived in Italy for 35 years, he has a unique perspective on Italy and Roman society. In other words, not just a guide but a thoughtful, opinionated man with whom we shared interesting discussions. Even better, he has excellent taste in restaurants and our stops for meals were outstanding.
