Venice highlights in a single private tour
This tour is customized for visitors spending one or two days in Venice and wanting to catch as much information as possible from a one-shot visit.
The tour includes a visit to the two main monuments in town, the Ducal Palace and the church of St. Mark, and a walk throughout the neighborhoods of Castello and Cannaregio.
That's all what you need to be extensively introduced to Venice. The palace and the church represent the power and the glory of the past, when "the most Serene Republic of Venice" was a crossway for trade in between the east and the west of Europe.
The walk allows you to be brought into a more descrete Venice, off the tourist crowds, and to discover the main facts and figures of the past as well as of the present Venetian life.
The Doge's Palace, former residence of the duke of Venice and headquarters of the Government, is the ultimate example of Venice's glorious past. The best painters were called or decorate its inner halls. The visit of the palace includes the Bridge of Sighs and the old prison.
The church of St. Mark, with over 8000 square meters of golden mosaics and 900 years of existence, can be considered the best preserved example of byzantine art in the world. It is today the cathedral of Venice.
The walk throughout the neighborhoods of Castello and Cannaregio brings us out of the crowds of the centre into less touristic areas. We cross important squares like SS. Giovanni e Paolo as well as less fancy districts like the site of Marco Polo's home. We end up at the Rialto area.
To enter St. Mark's church:
NO to short pants, miniskirts, sleeveless, bare shoulders, backpacks that can be left in deposit before entering.
YES to bermuda pants, knee long skirts, a scarf to cover shoulders.

Giovanna was punctual, friendly and knowledgeable. She provided tips on being a considerate tourist, as well as on how to use the vaporetto, where to eat, and other top sites in the city. Her knowledge of history was extensive. She was kind to our children and included everyone in the fun. It was a wonderful introductory tour of several Venetian neighbourhoods!
