Come discover the hidden depths of the Eternal City!
Unlike most of the cities, Rome is not just "one" city. In fact, Rome is many cities built one on top of each other, layer upon layer, and you can explore it not only walking on its surface but also going underground, to its hidden core. That's where we're going to take you. Down to the archaeological wonders of ancient Rome.
This tour includes three sights: the Catacombs, the Basilica of St. Clement and the Roman Houses on the Caelian Hill.
The Catacombs are ancient subterranean cemeteries carved in the natural bedrock. They are massive, fascinating mazes where the early Christians were buried.
St. Clement's Basilica is an off-the-beaten-path treasure: it's a church from the 12th century built on top of a church from the 4th century built on top of some ancient Roman buildings from the 1st century, and you'll get to see all the layers of this incredible site!
The last stop will be the Roman Houses on the Caelian Hill, the only ancient Roman "condo" whose wall paintings are still incredibly preserved.
This tour includes three sights:
- Basilica of St. Clement's
- Roman houses on the Caelian Hill
- Catacombs of Domitilla (Appian Way).
Usually, we start from the Catacombs but the order of the sights might change.
The tour will always end in the Colosseum area.

The tour with Giovanni was exceptional! He is very knowledgeable and very personable. We went to catacombs off the beaten path that were amazing. It was a fun and educational day providing a glimpse into Rome's past. He even returned our jackets we left behind. I highly recommend Giovanni as a guide and his Underneath Rome and Catacombs Tour.
