NEW! Exploring Buda and Gödöllő

This two-half-day tour offers you the chance to visit both Buda and Gödöllő. Explore the Royal Gardens, the church in Buda where she was crowned to be Hungarian queen and of course the stunning restored rooms in her favourite Hungarian palace in Gödöllő. It's also the largest Baroque palace in Hungary that can be seen in its former glory. Listen to stories about her childhood and marriage, why she loved and helped the Hungarians as much as she could and how the palace in Gödöllő - which by the way was given to her as a coronation gift by the Hungarian nobility- became her favourite palace. Even in Buda, in the Royal gardens, she had a so called "Hungarian house" built especially for her, furnished in old Hungarian style. You'll hear about the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, how it was born and then torn apart after WW1 and how our borders were redrawn.
So if you are ready to explore a stunning countryside palace as well as Buda, this tour is definitely for you.

Day 1: We explore the Buda Castle district focusing on the sights that were important in Sisi's life. Have a pleasant walk through the Royal gardens up to the Palace followed by the famous Matthias Church where she was crowned to be Hungarian queen. I show you photos of how the palace used to look like in her time and how it looked after WW2. I'll tell you why Franz Joseph was hated by the Hungarians at first and how Sisi did a lot to reach the Compromise between Austria and Hungary so the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy could be born. And from that time the Golden Age started in Hungary, several stunning buildings were built eg. the Parliament in Pest, the size of the Buda Palace was doubled and many bridges were built. Unfortunately WW1 and it's treaties redrew the borders and the Monarchy was broken up.

Day 2: Drive to Gödöllő and have a guided tour in Sisi's palace. Get to know her life, her family and why she loved spending time here escaping the strict Austrian court. Gödöllő was a place in Haven for her.
