an half day tour in a fairy tale
A tour to discover Alberobello and Locorotondo: 2 "jewels" of Itria Valley.
The historic city center of Alberobello is an Unesco World Heritage site because of its trulli (there are about 1. 500): a unique kind of dry stone (without any mortar) conical roof buildings that have survived quite intact and functioning into the modern world. Lots of them are still used as home and the others as restaurant, shop, tourist accommodation.
A tour to discover the trulli (their history, architecture, the mystery and symbolism of their finials) and to enjoy the fairy tale atmosphere of this amazing hamlet.
Locorotondo (its name comes from the circular lay out of its city center) with its winding streets with withewashed houses with triangular dry stone roofs (called "a cummersa" or "a pignon"). It has been awarded with the Orange Flag (a recognition for the quality of tourism and the environment in small inland towns) by the Italian Touring Club and it's been declared one of the most beautiful italian hamlet.
In Alberobello we will visit the two old districts of Trulli: Aia Piccola and Monti. If you like we can visit also the Trullo Sovrano (national monument) to understand how was life and furniture in the past in a typical trullo.
In Locorotondo we will admire its terrific skyline and we will visit this quaint hamlet.
It's also possible to extend / modify the tour with a culinary activity such as a cooking class or a visit to a workshop (winery, olive oil mill, bakery, etc. ) with tasting (wine, extra virgin olive oil, cheese, some Slow Food Presidia such as Biscotto di Ceglie almond biscuit, Capocollo di Martina pork cured meat) or a visit to the baroque Martina Franca, the white city of Ostuni, the quaint hamlet of Cisternino, the temple of Apulian cuisine Ceglie Messapica, Gioia del Colle and its Primitivo wine, Matera's Unesco cave dwellings, Noci and its authentic city center where it's possible to taste one of the best panino (sandwich) in Italy made with typical products, lots of creativity and passion.

Alessandro is very knowledgeable about the area and gave a very insightful and thoughtful tour. He met us at the agreed time and place. We were traveling with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. He was extremely helpful and good with the children. Their safety was clearly a priority to him and we very much appreciate that. Our group of 8 adults on this tour highly recommend Alessandro.
