The views will astound you!
This tour is about the journey, not the destination. Train tracks were built at the end of the 1800s for steam locomotives by our most revered President and an engineer from Virginia after many failed attempts by others. The tracks and trains, recently restored and now running all the way to coastal Guayaquil, pass absolutely breathtaking scenery; the route on the Andes spine is amazing. Use my several pair of Nikon binoculars to bring beautiful sights up close. This leisurely and slow paced ride will allow you to enjoy wonderful Andes sightseeing, views of indian farms and small pueblos (villages) that can be seen from no other transportation. The train trip will be one way; we depart at Cotopaxi and tour the volcano park base and return by motor vehicle with a stop for mid-afternoon lunch at the almost 400 year old, beautiful, Hacienda Cienega with its captivating, private chapel; now only an hour to Quito, in the olden days it took a week! Price is for 2.
This tour can be for up to 10 people - see below
I will pick you up early in the morning, 6:45am sharp, and take you to the train station to board the train that will take us through the south of huge Quito to the Cotopaxi national park called "El Boliche", about three hours away by this train. The views will be spectacular!
We will walk/hike around this area and have time to taste some of the Ecuadorian treats that the local people have to offer, take a horseback ride if you would like.
We will go by our motor vehicle from here to a late lunch at a beautiful almost four hundred years old hacienda in the area. Often, if on a weekend, a local walking band will play Ecuador music for dining guests.
Drop off at your hotel about 5:30pm
This will have been a very relaxing, beautiful, rather extraordinary day. The train ride is special and something not many tourists have the opportunity to do.

WOW such a fantastic day with Vivian. She is the ultimate super-guide. Vivian went to great pains to get everything in order for the train trip, excellent prompt responses to all our questions, lots of great prep advice. Train ride was from Quito to Cotopaxi where we did a horseback-riding trip that was the high point of our week in Ecuador. All arranged a la carte by Vivian in response to our particular interests. Vivian seems to know everything about everything! English outstanding. THANKS, VIVIAN
