We start at Capitol HIll to see the stately Supreme Court building (1920s), the magnificent Library of Congress (1900s) and the Capitol building itself (1793) We continue down Capitol Hill to the White House (1793) and Lafayette Square. Distance covered: 3. 2 miles Terrain: downhill or flat Level: easy Time: 3 hours
We meet inside the historic and beautiful Union Station. Heading out, our first stop is in front of the Supreme Court. Next we see the Library of Congress. Then we continue to the east front of the Capitol Building and then circle around to the more familiar west front. The East front was originally used for presidential inaugurations. Starting with Ronald Reagan, inaugural ceremonies have taken place on the west side of the Capitol, facing the Mall. We head down Capitol Hill to the cinematic Grant Memorial. From there, we walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, past the National Archives and FBI Building. We cut through the landmark Willard Hotel and then continue to the White House and West Wing. We wrap up with a short tour of historic Lafayette Park.
