Here is a chance to really get off the beaten track. If you feel like a change from the typical guided tour or are just looking for a refreshing way to spend the day, a hike through one of DC's many beautiful parks may be just the ticket. Our hike takes us through the beautiful woods of Glover Archbold Park. The total distance is a little less than 4 miles. We end the hike at the historic C & O Canal, which dates back to 1831. We can time the walk so you are in Georgetown for lunch or for dinner.
Our hike starts at the north end of Glover Archbold park. We follow an old stream bed through the woods, crossing a few local streets. With a little luck, we may catch a glimpse of a fox or deer. (This is the same trail that Silent Spring author Rachel Carson would take to go birdwatching in the 1950s. ) The trail is a dirt path with an occasional hill. ATHLETIC SHOES, WALKING SHOES or HIKING SHOES are a must. We may have to navigate obstacles such as a fallen tree or a large mud puddle. We stay on the trail till it ends at the old C&O Canal towpath in Georgetown. (A popular spot for local walks and bike rides). The towpath takes us down to a park by the Potomac River. You can stay there or we can continue another few blocks to M Street in Georgetown where there are many places to shop, drink and eat.
