Have your own vehicle or prefer to drive yourself? I can meet you at the Park! A UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is a must see while on the Big Island! At over 335, 000 acres, the Park is quite large and there is a lot to do and see. With me as your guide, I'll customize an itinerary based on your preferences to fully maximize your time, and also you'll learn about what you're seeing! Most guests don't realize that the Park spans a diverse amounts of climate zones and at the higher elevations can be much cooler than most people expect for Hawaii. I provide you with Patagonia jackets and Nikon ProStaff binoculars to make your day even better! The park is home to critically endangered wildlife, two of the world's most active volcanoes, and some of the most unique geological, biological and cultural landscapes on earth! It can be quite intimidating to do on your own. I will provide you with guided interpretation throughout the day
- We will meet inside Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park at the Volcano Art Center Gallery, just to the left of the Park's visitor center. - We will begin our in-depth exploration of Park by standing at the edge very top of Kilauea, the worlds active volcano and one of two volcanoes that make up Volcanoes National Park. Here I will explain and show you the vast changes that have happened here over the years to make up what we currently see today. Following, we will stop at the Wahinekapu steaming bluffs and be able to feel the hot steam coming through the cracks in the rocks. Next, we will head down to the Thurston (Nahuku) lava tube for a short walk through the tube itself and the surrounding forest. - After these three stops, there are many options of things to see. Based on your personal preferences, I'll construct an itinerary to maximize your experience. Some of the locations we can visit (but not limited to): Kilauea Iki, Devastation trail, Pauahi, Maunaulu, Holei sea arch, Pu'uloa, and Ha'akulamanu.
