We'll drive to Muir Woods, spend an hour there then drive to Point Reyes and go to the Bear Valley Visitors Center where we will walk the 1/2 mile Earthquake Trail which is sitting on top of the San Andreas Fault. Then we'll head to Point Reyes Station for lunch, followed by visiting the elephant seal colony on Drakes Bay, when in season, otherwise gorgeous Drakes Bay where Sir Francis anchored his ship in 1579.
I suggest an 8:00 departure from San Francisco to avoid noisy tour bus crowds that disturb the serenity inside the ancient redwoods. You'll spend 60 minutes in the park. After that we take a 45 minute scenic drive north to Point Reyes. There we walk the . 5 mile Earthquake Trail loop which is sitting on the San Andreas fault. After lunch head to Drakes Bay and see the elephant seals, when in season. Then head back to San Francisco for a 5:00 arrival.
