In 2002, Utah welcomed the world for the 19th Olympic Winter Games, just months after the world changed forever by the attacks of September 11, 2001. Many thought the already scandal-plagued games shouldn't take place at all. But, with new leadership and increased security, Utah hosted a very successful winter games spread out across the Salt Lake Valley, Park City, Midway, and other venues in Weber County and Provo. When Brigham Young and others hiked to the top of Ensign Peak two days after arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847, they probably couldn't have envisioned such a large event like the Olympics despite raising their biblical "ensign to the nations. " On this tour, we'll delve into these stories and everything in between, from the first peoples to live in Utah to the tech of Silicon Slopes. This tour includes both Utah's capitol city and its ski capitol. Stops include Utah Olympic Park, Temple Square, Utah State Capitol Building, This Is the Place Monument, and more.
This tour can begin in either Salt Lake City or Park City and will include: Park City - Drive through Historic Park City - Visit Utah Olympic Park Visit the Great Salt Lake (contact me to customize with time to float in the lake or take a boat tour) Salt Lake City - Visit This Is the Place Monument and Pioneer Center - Visit Utah State Capitol Building - Attend Tabernacle Organ Recital (in Conference Center through summer 2024) - Drive by tour of Temple Square including the Beehive House, Lion House, Salt Lake Temple, and more - Drive by Rice-Eccles Stadium Olympic Plaza, around Liberty Park, by Trolley Square, and down South Temple Street (Masonic Temple, Cathedral of the Madeleine, First Presbyterian Church, Governor's Mansion, Enos Wall Mansion) - Drive by Salt Palace Convention Center, Union Pacific Depot, Rio Grande Depot, Pioneer Park, City and County Building, and Salt Lake City Public Library Lunch at Taste of Red Iguana This tour can be customized.

This is mostly a driving tour. We will be using a clean and comfortable vehicle. If a larger/different vehicle is needed, please contact me for options. Please note that elements of this tour is dependent on weather and driving conditions. The drive between Park City and Salt Lake City is through a canyon and can be dangerous in winter weather conditions. At a few of our stops, we will park and get out of the car and doing a bit of walking. If you have mobility or accessibility issues that need to be accommodated, please contact me. This tour is mostly accessible.
