Having lived here for my entire life, I fell in love with the fact that New York City has so many different architectural styles, all of them get their time in the spotlight. And the use of these different styles is what gives the New York City skyline such a unique look and like to think that I am just illuminating what is already there in a crowded field.

In the City of New York, I have discovered that there are 5 reasons as to why buildings are built where they are built and why they were built - ego is one them. Buildings are reflections of their egos, saying "look at me, look at me, look at me". Because of the competition for your attention and the densely packed skyline, buildings had stand out or be lost in the view.

Art Deco was not invented here but some of the greatest examples of are right here in Manhattan. Some of these buildings are icons, not just of the City but of the style itself. they all contribute to what makes the skyline here so unique and make me so proud that I live here.

When I first moved to Manhattan from Queens I would follow my West 30th street to the Hudson shore, walking past parked smelly garbage trucks, school buses, old warehouses and an active train yard thinking this is not the Manhattan from TV!

This was in 2011 and most of it is gone now but the train yard is still there, covered up and on top of it - the most expensive real estate project in American history borrowing its name - the Hudson Yards. Now this was interesting - watching the whole neighborhood being developed from scratch to a sort of a Museum of Architecture!

It is here the High Line starts, a linear park magically transformed from a freight rail line I have accidentally discovered looking for a new walking route to the office, that has now become one of the main Points of Interest in NYC.

And with famous architects fighting for a chance to design a building here the neighborhood is constantly growing and transforming: this is the place to be right now to see the mythical ever-changing NYC.

The High Line was once a freight Rail Line, now it has been reclaimed and is now a 1. 5m/2. 4km Public Park, with great views

- Native plants and wildflowers in the heart of the former manufacturing and wharf district.

- So many of the old warehouse structures remain, most are repurposed.

We will recall how a derelict freight line, has become an iconic NYC destination. I can share personal recollections of rail transport in New York and the region. That is passenger service, freight lines, trolleys and cable cars. Every time I am on the Brooklyn Bridge, it is as if I am there for the first time. I am struck at how beautiful it is, the sweep of the cables is mesmerizing. And each time I am also reminded of what it took to build it. The story of the most famous bridge in the world is incredible. Forty Second Street Architecture NYC Walking Tour

Having lived here for my entire life, I have always been amazed that New York City has so many different architectural styles. Because there is so much competition for attention, the best examples of various styles are represented.

Young architects, looking to make a name for themselves, got their chance along the Champs-Élysées of the Bronx - The Grand Concourse. The area along the Concourse near Yankee Stadium is a treasure trove of deco.

For whom where these structures built? Who were these treasures designed by? What happened that lead the development of the Bronx? Why did a NYC architect known for his luxury high rise apartment buildings in NYC design a middle-class masterpiece? I love sharing the answers to these questions and showing guests that there is more to NYC than Manhattan!
