In the movie "Wall Street," Gordon Gekko told the world that greed is good, but there's much more to Wall Street - and the (former) Financial District - than finance and greed! Dutch settlement, the British, and the Revolutionary War may come to mind. Yes, we'll talk finance on this tour. Sure, we'll explore NYC's Dutch roots, the Redcoats, and the Sons of Liberty. But this old part of New York City is also a saint's birthplace, a Lenape trading trail, anarchists, the invention of takeout food, vandals, Aaron Burr's ghost, a working farm, immigrants, and obscure monuments. It's twisty streets and secrets. Please join me for a spotlight on unexpected Wall Street, drawing on my research for a book about offbeat New York City.
We will meet in front of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal to begin our exploration into the secrets of Wall Street and the Financial District, ending at the historic Fraunces Tavern. - Peter Minuit Plaza/The Costello Map of 1660 - 8 State Street/The home of the first American-born saint - Battery Park City - The Immigrants sculpture - Castle Clinton - Battery Park Urban Farm - Bowling Green Park - Canyon of Heroes - The Charging Bull - Trinity Cemetery - Federal Hall & the New York Stock Exchange - "The Corner" - 40 and 48 Wall Street - Delmonico's - Stone Street - Gov. Lovelace Tavern remains - Fraunces Tavern If you would like to customize this itinerary, I would be delighted to work with you to create a special tour!
