The tour will take us up Fifth Avenue stopping at the former homes of some of New York's most prominent and wealthy families. We'll examine the lives of people like the Vanderbilts, the Astors, the Carnegies, the Woolworths, the Dukes and the Fricks. They all had opulent homes on New York's most fashionable street, Fifth Avenue. These homes were single family residences, complete with ballrooms and space for plenty of entertaining. We'll discuss how each of these families made their fortunes and in some cases, how they lost them. We'll also see how Fifth Avenue was transformed from a boulevard of mighty mansions to one with more modest, yet still opulent apartment buildings, which became the home of people such as William Paley, founder of CBS, as well as Mary Tyler Moore. This tour would not have been possible with out the help of my friend Emma CG . . thank you Emma!
