If you love culture and history this is the tour for you! Harlem is the epicenter of the African American experience. No visit to New York City is complete without a stop at the world-famous Apollo Theater. The area is known today as Harlem was once tribal lands of the Native Lenny Lenape tribe when the Dutch arrived and renamed the spot New Haarlem, after a town back in Europe. In the 20th century, the Great Migration of African Americans out of the South seeking opportunity and freedom would give birth to a cultural and intellectual Renaissance seldom seen in human history. The expression of a newly free people would change the destiny of the United States going forward as the nation's music, letters, arts, politics, and understanding of equality burst forth out of Harlem to influence every aspect of American life! Discover Harlem on this tour with me while learning about its art and history! We will also have a chance to taste its culture!
We start at Marcus Garvey Park back before the arrival of the Dutch colonists and travel through time and space hitting cultural icons like the: • Malcolm Shabazz Mosque • 125th Street • the Apollo Theater • and the perfect cultural fusion of Lee Lee's Baked Goods - "rugelach by a brother. "
