Art and Architecture of The High Line NYC Walking Tour

The far west side of Manhattan was associated with meatpacking facilities, factories, and railyards for a century, however, today this area has become a microcosm of the vast changes, both for better and worse that the city is undergoing in 21st century. Gentrification at its peak, this area no longer represents blue-collar opportunity, but luxury apartments, extravagant hotels, hot clubs, fine dining, and the ultimate instagrammable experience. We'll start in the meatpacking district and walk through Chelsea Market, the old Nabisco factory where the oreo cookie was invented and the new chic food hall owned by Google. From there we'll hop on the Highline, and walk the converted elevated railroad which today is an elegant park filled with eco-friendly gardens, sculptural art, and intoxicating views. Along the way we'll discuss the meatpacking district, the titanic and immigrant arrivals of old, real estate prices, Chelsea Piers, art galleries, LGBTQ activism and more!
