In about 5 hours, we'll explore some of the city's less famous but no less charming "cities of the dead", conveyed by the city's famous streetcars. Your adventure starts early at a venerable New Orleans coffee stand overlooking several large cemeteries. While we enjoy a traditional "café au lait & beignets", I'll go over New Orleans' fascinating backstory (with maps!) before descending into an adjacent cemetery, sharing details of "cemetery-ing", New Orleans style. We'll ride the streetcar down Canal Street to catch the historic St. Charles streetcar line to the Garden District and stroll through to Magazine Street for lunch. Returning to St. Charles, we'll continue by streetcar, debarking a few more times to explore cemeteries "well off the beaten path". This experience would be most convenient on your first day in New Orleans so that you can take advantage of the very helpful information that I'll be sharing with you that'll help guide you through the remainder of your visit to the Crescent City.
-We'll meet up at Morning Call Coffee Stand and enjoy traditional "café au lait & beignets", accompanied by an introduction to the city, its burial traditions, and its cemeteries. -After that, we'll stroll through one of several nearby cemeteries & ride the "Cemeteries" streetcar down Canal Street. -We'll ride the historic St. Charles Streetcar to the Garden District. -After wandering around that famous neighborhood, we'll emerge onto eccentric Magazine Street for a bite & some refreshments. -Once renewed, I'll lead you back through the District to the streetcar, to continue further under the live-oak canopy of mansion-lined St. Charles & Carrollton Avenues, debarking twice more for short, lovely walks to & around my favorite neighborhood cemeteries. -We'll wrap up our adventure at an appropriate local spot in the Carrollton neighborhood for a debriefing. From here you can use your 24 hours transit pass to return downtown via streetcar or seek other transportation as preferred. *Customizable itinerary.
