Private New York Sightseeing Tour by Vehicle

The first thing we will do with our time together is create a custom itinerary, based on your likes and interests. A tour with a 6-, 9- and 11-year old is very different than a tour for two senior citizens. Some guests want to focus on New York's iconic tourist sights, others prefer off-the-beaten-path places. Most guests prefer a blend of both worlds, which I am happy to accomodate. Regardless of your selections, as we move from location to location throughout the city, I will connect the dots with accounts from history, news, movies, popular culture and, of course, my own experiences!

I do not take time for lunch out of your tour time. I am well experienced with lunch and well qualified to make recommendations, again, based on your preferences.

I will also, throughout our tour as I get to know you better, make recommendations for the remainder of your stay, including places to visit, eat, shop, experience, etc. This is why it may be best to take this "overview" tour, as early in your visit as possible.

Greenwich Village has been the artistic center of New York for a century, which is reason enough to visit. It's also one of the most architecturally intact 19th century districts you can find here. It is off the grid, with winding streets that ignore the street plan of Manhattan. Tree lined blocks abound with shops, restaurants and small parks. The history here is filled with noteworthy figures and movements that have, literally, shaped the country.

The northern edge of "The Village", the meatpacking district, has transformed itself as an entirely different place of fashion and food, where the latest trends adorn shop windows and where high end restaurants occupy century old storefronts.

We end the tour ascending the above ground High Line, arguably the most significant new park in the city since Central Park. It is a miraculous transformation of landscaping and design which has entirely transformed 25 blocks of the the far west side of Manhattan , and is simply a 'must see' when visiting New York.

Explore the City with a Native New Yorker

The World Trade Center was an idea born at the 1939 Worlds Fair, and brought to life by David and Nelson Rockefeller in the 1950s; but it is a very personal experience for me. My father's first office - in 1946 - was one block from where the Trade Center would be built 25 years later, and was my sales territory in the 1980s. Although I had been to every floor (except the basement) of each building (and there were 7 original buildings), and I knew many who worked there, I feel fortunate that no one I knew perished there.

But when we visit the Memorial I can tell you very personal stories of many of those who were there that day; the old saying about six degrees of separation is very true here for me.

We shall discuss the architecture and the design of the original Trade Center as well as the new one; and we shall cross over to the landfill, provided by the excavation for the original World Trade Center, that we know today as Brookfield Place in Battery Park City.
