There is a reason the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the country, with over 14 million visitors each year! Whether you are coming to rent a cabin and spend some time with the family in nature, or if you are on a mission to hike all of the national parks in the country, the Smokies have a variety of scenic and exciting options to choose from! On this tour we will be heading in the direction of North Carolina. We will be hiking up to Alum Cave, which has some breathtaking views on the way up, and some great photo ops when we arrive at the top. Once we get to Alum Cave, we will have lunch, and relax for a bit, and then head back down. The hike is about 5 miles roundtrip, which will take us approximately 3. 5 hours with stops and lunch. After that, we will visit Clingman's Dome, which is a popular destination for scenic views of the Smoky Mountains and the Observation deck.
Pick up at hotel or cabin if you are staying in the Smoky Mountain region. If you are staying in Knoxville, we can arrange a pick up at additional cost. -Drive to Alum Cave trailhead (about 35 minutes from Gatlinburg) -Hike to Alum Cave (3. 5 hours roundtrip with lunch break). We gain about 1200ft in elevation from the trailhead to Alum Cave, so please keep that in mind. You will burn some calories! -Drive to Clingman's Dome (about 30 minutes from Alum Cave) -Head back to your hotel/cabin Please note that Clingman's Dome closes December 1 for the season, until mid March. We will substitute Clingman's Dome with the Newfound Gap Overlook during the winter months.
