From the historic Stranahan Home, we'll talk about the early pioneers of Fort Lauderdale, originally known as the "New River Settlement". Trade between local Indians and travelers helped both groups thrive in the Everglades, until a second war with the Seminole tribe. Hear the story of Major Lauderdale, the fort, and the city taking the name, "Fort Lauderdale". Charlie Rhodes came back from Venice, with the idea of canal-building, creating house lots with ocean access. The deep canals and great climate made the city "the Yachting Capital of the World". We will drive along the beach, and see the luxury hotels that have replaced the motels that were here in the 1960's. A public pool, next to the beach, brought teenagers together, launching the movie, "Where the Boys Are", adding to our fame as "the Spring Break Capital of the World". Today, visitors attend the "International Boat Show", go out to international waters to make a down payment, tax free. Where else would you buy a $30 million yacht?
You'll begin with a drive to the Historic District, where an Indian trail became Florida's first road, "Federal Highway 1". We will see how a campsite and trading post turned into a school, post office, bank and home for our city's founders, Frank and Ivy Stranahan. Our trail continues at Esplanade Park, where agents watched Al Capone's men "bootlegging" whiskey onto the trains. We'll pass by the new train station for "Brightline", a new high-speed train that operates from Miami to Orlando. At our next stop, we will see the "Isles of Venice", a development of canals that made the city, the "Venice of America". Our journey through time shows us a WWII torpedo storage room that is now disguised as a popular restaurant. The submarines have been replaced with some of the world's largest mega-yachts! Have a cocktail, and feed the Tarpon, who are up to 8 feet long and weigh over 200 pounds!

I use a beautiful, spacious, luxury GMC Yukon XL with leather seats, 3 rows that carry 1 guest in front, 3 in the 2nd row (bench seat) and 3 in the 3rd row, with 45 square feet of luggage/cargo space behind the 3rd row. Total guest capacity is seven, unless seating space is taken for luggage. The SUV is fully insured with commercial passenger/limousine insurance, and is authorized for Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Add $100 if you have 5, 6 or 7 guests. More than 7? Please message me.
