Get away from the crowds on this walking tour from the edge of the city to the centre. Enjoy the wide expanse of the Knavesmire, the home of York's racecourse and once the site of York gallows, before strolling along the banks of the mighty River Ouse, which has played such a significant part in York's history and has shaped much of the city that we see today. We will approach the city centre along the river bank passing and viewing significant landmarks along the way and learning about how flooding impacts the city and the people who live and work in it. Passing several of York's historic bridges we will end the tour in the beautiful Museum Gardens surrounded by historic ruins, squirrels and the sounds of the city.
• Meet: Railway Station or elsewhere by prior agreement • Take public bus to Askham Bar on the edge of York (included) • Walk from Askham Bar to the Knavesmire • River Ouse • Millennium Bridge • Blue Bridge and the River Foss • Tower Gardens • Kings Staith • Finish: Museum Gardens All my tours can be customized upon request
